Health and Wellbeing Board Annual Report  Tuesday, August 6, 2019

We are pleased to welcome the health and wellbeing board annual report.

The report highlights the work which has happened across the last 12 months; how this has contributed to delivering the joint health and wellbeing strategy, and the vision of the board: for every single resident of York to enjoy the best possible health and wellbeing throughout the course of their life.

The report also demonstrates how the work of the JSNA has been put into use - find out more on pages 16 and 17.

Director of Public Health's Annual Report 2017-2018  Thursday, September 27, 2018

It is a real pleasure to introduce the Director for Public Health’s annual report, covering 2017/18.

This year we have placed an emphasis on encouraging people to talk about health, including what is needed to help people to live healthier lives and some inspiring stories of how people's live have changed after accessing support.

We were really keen to hear from people what good health meant to them so we decided to produce a short film highlighting the state of the health of the population in York, and what is being done to improve this.

The film focuses on the issues of alcohol, childhood obesity, physical activity and mental health. We know that these present challenges for our residents, but I hope that the video provides encouragement about how some of our residents are taking their health into their own hands and tackling these issues.

I would like to thank all those involved, especially the residents who spoke so openly and honestly about their health journeys and spared the time to contribute to this video.

We hope you find it informative and interesting, if you have any thoughts we would love to hear from you.

Starting and Growing Well: Inequality Report

The York JSNA group have published the “Starting and Growing Well: Inequality Report” which looks into the differing experiences of children and young people as they grow up in York. The report focuses on three interlinking themes; childhood obesity, self-harm in young adults, and childhood poverty.

This is the first of a series of inequality reports that we intend to publish, each focusing on a different theme from the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

The next inequality report will explore inequalities in mental health in York and will be published in autumn 2018. If you would like to contribute to this or any future inequality reports then please get in touch.

Homeless Health Needs Assessment (April 2018)

People who are homeless represent a small proportion of the total population of York, but have a disproportionately high prevalence of physical and mental ill health and have a significant need for statutory and voluntary sector health and social care services. This report looks at the views of service users and professionals in York and identified a selection of key challenges for the city. The needs assessment was instigated in part to support the York Homelessness Strategy 2018-2023.
